Techiman (BE/R),- Dr Kwabena Fosohene Kusi, the Techiman South Municipal Director of Health Services says the Directorate is prepared to track the outbreak of yellow fever disease through surveillance in the area.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday Dr Kusi said though the area had not yet recorded any case, surveillance had been mounted in and around health facilities in the Municipality and its environs to check and trace records of people with the virus to prevent spreading.

He said the Directorate had also embarked on community sensitization about the outbreak of the disease in some regions such as the Savanna and stressed the need for residents to watch out and move about with care to avoid infection by the virus.

Dr Kusi said as part of preventive measures, the Directorate had begun open vaccination of both adults and infants to prevent an outbreak and spread of the disease.

He underscored the need for people to prevent mosquito bites because mosquitoes contained the virus and advised that keeping the environments clean through weeding of bushy areas, cleaning the quarters, drying stagnant waters would prevent the breeding of mosquitoes and sleeping under treated-mosquito nets was also an effective preventive measure.

Dr Kusi urged the general public to report any symptoms of fever, headache, vomiting, severe jaundice, and bleeding to the nearest health facility for immediate attention and treatment.
