Students of St Paul R/C JHS construct classroom blocks, appeal for support

Tokuroano (O/R)- Students of St Paul Roman Catholic Junior High School (JHS) at Tokuroano in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, have begun the construction of a four-unit classroom block to enhance teaching and learning.

The construction of the mud structure is self-initiated by the pupils and staff of the School after failed requests to get a new classroom block.

Teaching and learning take place under trees, which create discomfort when the sun shines or the rain sets in.

A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) saw the students using sun-baked bricks of mud to construct the structure.

Mr Humphrey Agah, Headteacher of the School, told the GNA that the new classroom block would not only provide comfort when completed but also provide a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning.

He said education was key to the development of any society, contributing to the building of individual capacity physically, emotionally and intellectually.

Mr Agah appealed to non-governmental organisations, corporate entities, philanthropists home and abroad to go to their aid to ensure the future of the little children.

Madam Cynthia Adzoda, a teacher, said it had always been difficult to meet learning objectives for an academic year because classes were frequently interrupted by rainfall.

She pleaded with the government for the provision of a befitting ICT laboratory, bungalows, office and toilet facilities for the current generation of pupils and those yet unborn in the community.

Some of the students described the situation as worrying since classes often come to a close due to unfavourable weather conditions.
