Senior lecturer of UEW calls on stakeholders to get involved in motivating teachers

Winneba (C/R), Jan 10, GNA – Education stakeholders have been urged to motivate teachers to enable them to deliver quality education to their students.

Dr Samuel Poatab, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Social Studies, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), made the call at the 2021 best teacher awards and retirees send-off at Essuekyir a community in Effutu.

The event on the theme: “Motivating the Teacher: The Role of Stakeholders,” was organized by Effutu Directorate of Ghana Education Service with funding from Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu.

Education, he noted, is the bedrock for the social and economic development of nations, adding that advanced countries spent a substantial amount of resources to give their citizens the required knowledge, skills and values for the benefit of all.

Dr Poatab said the Country could experience more progress with appropriate investment in education to produce the human capital with the requisite knowledge, skills, values and attitude for national development.

He underscored the important role of teachers in national development, adding that it was about time stakeholders found various ways of motivating teachers to make them remain in the profession.

“All formal sector workers, including Lawyers, Judges, MPs who have attained any level of formal education are all the handiwork of teachers and it is about time as people, we attach some level of importance to teachers,” he stated.

Dr Poatab advised teachers to have a love for the job and work with all the joy and enthusiasm needed for accomplishing the needed task.

They must as well be motivated to enable them to execute their work with total commitment and enthusiasm with the ultimate aim of attaining the best.

He also urged students to respect their teachers, show the readiness to study and remain disciplined to motivate teachers to give their best.

Dr Poatab further reminded parents that they were expected to complement the efforts of teachers at home by assisting their wards to do their homework, providing them with the necessary materials needed to prepare them well to learn and learn well.

He urged staff of the Ghana Education Service to have a cordial relationship with teachers and be concerned with their welfare and organize more in-service training programmes to acquaint themselves with the current demands.
