Police investigating videos of December 31 prophesies

Accra,-The Police have started investigations into video footages of alleged prophesies by some pastors during watchnight services on December 31.

This followed a caution by the Police against prophesies that could cause fear and panic, during such services to usher in the New Year.

These were contained in a press release signed by Superintendent of Police Mr Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service.

“Following this initiative, multiple video footages have come to our attention regarding the communication of prophesies on the night of December 31, 2021,” it said, adding that the Service had begun analysing the videos to ascertain whether any of them was in breach of the laws of the country.

The release, said anybody found culpable would be put before the court.

It said: “We would like to caution that, the law on publication of information, incuding prophecies that have the tendency to cause fear and panic or put people’s lives in danger, is not limited only to December 31 but should be adhered to on a daily basis.”

The release, said the law and the Police were not against religious practices or the performance of religious doctrines and beliefs such as prophecies, however, if such information was communicated publicly and undermined the laws of the State, the relevant laws and sanctions would be applied.
