Kadjebi (O/R), Mr Emmanuel Kofi Kafui Hodzor, the Headteacher of Kadjebi D/A Primary School has advised parents and guardians to invest in their children’s education for a better tomorrow.
He said they ought to provide their wards with their school needs such as uniforms, shoes, books and other learning materials, since the government could not do everything for them.
Mr. Hodzor said the situation where they look-up to the government for everything should belong to the past.
He said they should take good care of the children whether they were their biological children or adopted, because God had a plan for everybody.
Mr. Hodzor, who is also the Kadjebi District Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisation, made these statements at Kadjebi D/ A Primary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
He admonished them not to discriminate or suppress the adopted child, but treat them as their own, because they were also human beings.
The Headteacher also sensitised the parents on the new school curriculum, National Standard Assessment Test policy, extra class for class four pupils and mock examination for the pupils.
Mr. Nelson Adjedu, the School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman of the school, appealed to the parents to help complete a three-unit classroom block started in 2020.
Mr. Adjedu said the current school enrolment could accommodate the school children but if they trend should continue, it could lead to overcrowding with its attendance problems, hence the appeal.
Ms. Delight Ama Serwaa Akey, a Senior Civic Education Officer with the National Commission for Civic Education, advised parents to protect children against abuse.
She said children, especially the girl-child needed protection against sexual abuse, since the act contravened the life God designed for her.
Ms. Akey said there was the need to create a safe, non-violence, non-discriminatory and clear anti-bully environment for the child to achieve his or her full potentials.
She also advised parents to visit their children at school to know how they were doing in class.
Some of the parents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed their worry about increased indiscipline in schools.
They thus, appealed for re-introduction of corporal punishment to help curb the situation.
