Obuasi (Ash),– Madam Faustina Amissah District Chief Executive for Obuasi East, has asked parents and guardians to encourage their children to choose Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) at the senior high levels.
She said TVET remained the panacea in reducing the current unemployment situation in the country and there was the need for parents to encourage their children to enrol in technical and vocational schools to acquire skills and expertise that would make them self-employed.
Madam Amissah made the call when she toured some examination centres to interact with candidates writing the ongoing BECE in the district.
A total of 2,097 candidates from 39 public and private junior high schools in the district registered for the examination, which commenced on November 15, this year.
They were made up of 1,092 females and 1005 males.
Madam Amissah praised the candidates for comporting themselves throughout the examination period and encouraged them to prioritize education by pursuing it to the highest level.
“The government has made education financing easier for everyone.
Now, Senior High School Education is free while Scholarships have been decentralized, giving the district assemblies opportunities to lead the process.
You have every reason to pursue your education to the highest level,” she told the candidates.
On girl-child education, Madam Amissah said she was impressed with the turn-out of girls in the exams.
She appealed to stakeholders in education to focus on taking girls off the streets to the classroom.
Mr Owusu Nketia, District Director of Education, expressed delight in the peaceful atmosphere the examinations had been conducted so far.
He said except for a few students who fell sick during the exams period, the candidates had comported themselves throughout the period.
