PARDA fetes pupils in Builsa North Municipality.

Chuchuliga (U/E),— About 1,000 school children in the Builsa North Municipality have been feted by an NGO, Participatory Action for Rural Development Alternative (PARDA), which has been working to bring development to deprived communities in the Northern part of the country.

The children were from four schools – Tiedema Roman Catholic Primary School, the Achanyeri/Jaata Kindergarten and Primary, Namonsa and Chogdema Primary Schools. They were given food and soft drinks.

Some members of the Chuchuliga community also took part in the pre-Christmas party, which was supported by Children Believe (CB), a child-focus NGO based in Tamale, in the Northern Region, involved the promotion of early childhood.

Dr Michael Wombeogo, Director of PARDA, told Journalists that they did that to teach the children the value of sharing.

“It is to help them to appreciate the love of Christ and to share with them the importance of Christmas, and what it stands for. We believe that through this gesture, the pupils will emulate and learn to appreciate the need to love one another and learn to share their knowledge.”

PARDA has built a Child Welfare Clinic, Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre, sunk boreholes, supplied furniture, teaching and learning materials to schools in the Kassena-Nankana West District and the Builsa North Municipality.

The NGO has also complemented efforts by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to improve the health status of the people in various communities in the region.

It has built two maternity unit blocks in the Talensi District, supplied delivery beds to 12 Health Centres and tricycle ambulances to six districts in the Upper East Region.

The Director said they did all that in partnership with CB, UNICEF, OXFAM, the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and government agencies.

Mr. Timothy Awiah, the headteacher of Achanyeri/Jaata kindergarten and primary school, on behalf of the schools, expressed appreciation to the two organizations.
