NSA sets Feb. 26 for 2022 National Cross Country race in Akyem Oda

Accra, Feb.9, GNA – The National Sports Authority (NSA) has fixed Saturday, February 26, for this year’s National Cross Country race dubbed “Running towards the 13th African Games, Accra” in Akyem Oda, Eastern Region.

   

The annual event would see over 200 athletes battle it out for honours to get selection in the 2023 All African Games set to take place in Ghana.

Professor Peter Twumasi Director General of the NSA, speaking at the launch on Wednesday, said selected would be groomed into elite athletes to represent Ghana at any local or international competition especially at the African Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.

According to him, athletes from all the 16 regions would compete in the 10km race.

He said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the Vice President, together with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Mustapha Ussif would grace the occasion and present prizes to outstanding athletes adding that, they had also improved on the prize package for athletes.

Prof. Twumasi said this year’s championship would help boost the local economy of Ghana.  

“It is also evident that hosting this kind of national competition has a positive impact on the local economy as well as showcasing tradition and culture of the people, and opens opportunities in the area for world trade.”

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2023 Africa Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, in his speech said, the cross country offers an opportunity for the committee to unearth talents in their preparations towards the 2023 African Games.
