The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is embarking on a nationwide tour of the party.
According to the NPP, it is to galvanize the base of the party after the 2020 polls.
The tour which is beginning today is also to touch base with party members and explain the party’s plans and policies for the next four years.
The move according to the party leadership is aimed at also addressing a series of challenges party members face.
The Director of Communications for the party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa in a Citi News interview said the tour will also help address some grievances within the party.
“It is to meet the party, galvanize the party and let them know our programme for the four years ahead. We have to touch base after the election which is very important and to help us to get to the core of the party.”
It is unclear if the party will use the tour to address moves by some party members to campaign for possible flagbearer hopefuls ahead of the 2024 general elections; a move, the Deputy General Secretary of the party, Nana Obiri Boahen has described as unacceptable.
Speaking to Citi News, Obiri Boahen said the National Executive Committee and the National Council of the party have not sanctioned any such actions.
“The National Executive Committee and the National Council have not come out with a timetable for the commencement of this and therefore for me, it is wrong and unacceptable for people to be doing that,” the Deputy General Secretary said.
