Newly re-constituted Bono Regional Coordinating Council inaugurated

Sunyani,– Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, on Wednesday inaugurated the newly re-constituted Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) with a call on the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) to prioritize development.

She said the paramount interest of the region and its development ought to be the trademark of the MDCEs.

Mad Owusu-Banahene emphasized total development could not take place without investment into the various sectors of the economy and tasked the MDCEs to put in place mechanisms to attract investment.

She told the MDCEs to prioritize agriculture, particularly poultry and cashew, tourism, the hospitality industry, transport, education and Information Communication and Technology, which had huge economic prospects in the region.

“The RCC would collaborate with the Ghana Tourism Authority, media and other stakeholders, including Traditional Councils and embark on investment drive, to harness the potentials of the region,” she said at the RCC meeting held in Sunyani.

Mad Owusu-Banahene proposed the setting up of a committee that would spearhead the Bono Regional Development Framework and Blue-Print and outlined the strategic development needs of the region.

“It is my hope the work of the committee will ultimately result in the first-ever Regional Development Consultative Forum, where we can solicit inputs from major stakeholders and citizens on the way forward for our region,” she said.

“I hope the council members will avail themselves to be part of this endeavour where we can push the development agenda of the entire region, devoid of any partisan or factional considerations and solely for the benefit of our citizens,” the Regional Minister added.

Mad Owusu-Banahene indicated progress and development could only be attained through unity and, therefore, called on all stakeholders, including security services, political parties, traditional and religious leaders and pressure groups to channel their energies to peace-building and remained development-oriented.

“This is the surest way of benefiting from the massive development this government has to offer the people of Bono region and Ghana as a whole,” she said.

Mad Owusu-Banahene said several government interventions such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, Free Senior High School programme, industrialization drive under the One-District-One-Factory (1D1F)and construction of warehouses and storage facilities were all indications that the government was on course.

“We will depend on the District and Municipal Assemblies, through which, most of these interventions are being implemented, to ensure that these programmes and projects are positively impacting on the lives of our citizens,” she stated.

Justice Justice Gabriel Mate-Teye, the Presiding Judge in charge of the Sunyani High Court Two, who took the members of the newly re-constituted RCC through the official and oaths of secrecy asked them to adhere to the oath.

“Oath is becoming a formality and we must be disciplined and abide by the oath we take”, he told the members.
