New Juaben North MCE nominee Comfort Asante rejected

President Akufo-Addo’s New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee, Comfort Asante has been rejected by assembly members at the end of voting today.

Out of the 29 assembly members in the Municipality that voted, 15 of them votes YES while the remaining 14 others votes NO.

Although it is more than 50% of the total vote cast, it is not up to the two-thirds majority needed, and hence Comfort Asante has been rejected.

Speaking to Citi News after today’s voting, Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong who supervised the exercise shared that all is not lost for the nominee.

According to him, the numbers she polled are a good sign and there is the hope of her being approved in the second round.

“The most important thing is that we crossed the 50% threshold which is the next option of to go for a second confirmation in the next 10 days.

“We are not perturbed. We had information as to her being totally rejected and she crossing the 50% threshold is a greater assurance to us that there is more work to be done. This is a democracy, we will have to disagree to agree. This one too shall pass,” Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong noted.

The New Juaben North MCE nominee Comfort Asante is expected to do some engagements with the assembly members before the second round of voting is held in the next 10 days.
