Narayana Support System launches award scheme for teachers in Nkwanta South

Teachers play a very vital role in the upbringing of children. Teachers spend a lot of time with students to ensure they are positively transformed for the benefit of the larger society.

The old saying that the reward of teachers is in heaven is now receiving a new look and attitude. On 5th October 2021, a non-governmental organization by the name of Narayana Support System successfully launched an award scheme for teachers in the Nkwanta South Municipality and thereby, being the first nongovernmental Teachers’ Award Scheme in Ghana.

The launch day was carefully selected to coincide with World Teachers Day.

Teachers have been classified into 4 different groups for the awards; nursery, primary, JHS, and SHS. Apart from teachers, schools would also be rewarded for the overall performance of students.

The enthusiasm of teachers during the launch spoke volumes of how happy and proud they felt for being recognized.

The Founder/Executive Director of the organization, Mr. Narayana Osei-Nyarko said ” We want to improve the academic performances of students in this Municipality. We shall be rolling out a number of programs targeted at the students to keep them on course to become better students. We obviously can’t achieve this dream if the teacher is not well motivated to supervise the students. We believe strongly that when the teacher is motivated and remains happy, the cascading effect of their happiness on the students would be very great. Hence, our decision to motivate the teachers first”

The launch program was well attended by traditional rulers, politicians from both NDC and NPP, opinion leaders, retired teachers, teachers, and heads of schools. Apart from the Founder/Executive Director of the organization, other speakers include, Hon Maxwell Kofi Blagogyi(Former Oti Regional Deputy Minister), Mr. Jonathan Korsinah(Municipal Director of Education for Nkwanta South), Hon Bright Lenwah (Current MCE), and Hon. John Thasun(Former MCE).
The program was well organized and well-coordinated. Very colorful event.

Narayana Support System equally operates in other sectors such as health, youth development, entrepreneurship support, community support and also extends a hand of help to people in dire needs. The organization is modeled after RSS of India, which is believed to be the largest charity organization in the world.

Mr. Narayana Osei-Nyarko, during his speech, pulled up a big surprise at his teacher who taught him in class 1, Mr. Mawuena Damson. He brought out a fat envelope containing an undisclosed amount of cash and asked his class 1 teacher to join him on stage. He gave out the cash to him and thanked him for helping him to become who he is today.

According to him, Mr. Mawuena made schooling very enjoyable for him and he will never forget him. Mr. Mawuena Damson was so shocked that he shared tears and became speechless for such a kind gesture.

Offering Hope and spreading happiness is a key feature of the Narayana Support System.
