Accra,– Mr Anthony Pokoo-Aikins, the Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCC) has been enstooled as Ngumhene (Development Chief) of Kakumdo Traditional Area in the Central Region under the stool name Nana Pokoo-Aikins I.
The enstoolment rites were performed by Nana Kofi Ebu IV, Chief of Kakumdo, and Gyasehene of Oguaa Traditional Area of the Central Region.
This was occasioned when the leadership of the GNCCI was invited to the Oguaa Traditional Council to forge togetherness in the development of the Central Region and for that matter Ghana.
Nana Pokoo-Aikins, also the Chief Executive of PKA Star Investments Company Limited, in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency noted that one of the missing links in Ghana’s developmental agenda is the weak partnership between the traditional rulers and industry players.
He said industry was the mover and shaker of every economy and holds the key to job creation and that the partnership with the Oguaa Traditional Council was a strategic step to bridge the gap for effect rapid development.
“The partnership between the Chamber and the Nananom would ensure a conducive environment that would attract tourists and investors into Kakumdo Traditional Area, the Central Region, and Ghana at large,” Nana Pokoo-Aikins said.
He said: “Investors and tourists do not come to a particular area for visiting sake. They focus on choices that influence their decisions. For instance, land availability to support investor projects, and government flagship policies to cushion raw material suppliers.”
Nana Pokoo-Aikins observed that no investor or tourist would be willing to invest in ill-prepared economies like Central Region where the farmers were not well cushioned with technology and machines to produce in volumes against collapsed manufacturing plants.
“Industries such as Ameen Sangari which is suffocating, Ayensu Starch Factory, Mandis Komenda Sugar Factory; Rose Pillars (Asebu) among others in the Central Region are all dead. Tourists also come into the region, spend few hours, and leave because the Central Regional economy is not well-prepared to accommodate them for a longer period,” he stated.
He said the partnership with the traditional rulers would ensure the fixing of such challenges to attract tourists and investors to foster rich industry and tourism creation while helping to identify funding agencies.
“This partnership being championed by Nana Ebu IV; Chief of Kakumdo, will ensure the sustainability of government programmes for effective and sustainable results across all political divide in the Central Region and Ghana as a whole,” Nana Pokoo-Aikins noted.
