Matilda Odum calls for support for women’s football

TEMA, DEC. 3, GNA – MRS. MATILDA ODUM A SPORTS ENTHUSIAST HAS CALLED ON THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO SUPPORT WOMEN’S FOOTBALL, EMPHASISING THAT THE DUTY OF EMPOWERING YOUNG GIRLS IS AN OBLIGATION FOR ALL GHANAIANS.

SPEAKING IN AN INTERVIEW WITH THE GNA SPORTS MRS. ODUM URGED LOYAL CITIZENS AND LEGAL ENTITIES TO HELP INCREASE THE STANDARD OF WOMEN’S FOOTBALL.

SHE NOTED THAT WOMEN FOOTBALL HAD PRODUCED GREAT PLAYERS FOR THE COUNTRY INCLUDING ADJOA BAYOR, ALBERTA SACKEY, MEMUNATU SULEMANA, AND THE CURRENT BLACK QUEENS COACH MERCY TAGOE.

SHE COMMENDED THE GHANA WOMEN PREMIER LEAGUE (GWPL) BOARD FOR THEIR RESILIENCE IN PROMOTING WOMEN FOOTBALL AND PLEDGED TO LEAD A CAMPAIGN FOR SPONSORSHIP AND A LEVEL PLAYING GROUND FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN’S FOOTBALL.

MRS. ODUM ALSO COMMENDED THE FOOTBALL BODY FOR ITS EFFORT TO RAISE THE STANDARD OF THE WOMEN’S GAME AND BEING GOOD AMBASSADORS DESPITE ALL THE ODDS AGAINST THEM.

ACCORDING TO MRS. ODUM, “FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS, WOMEN FOOTBALL HAS BROUGHT MORE ACCOLADE THAN MEN FOOTBALL YET OUR MEN ARE TREATED WITH MORE RESPECT OVER OUR WOMEN.

“TO PROMOTE EQUALITY AND EQUITY IN OUR SOCIETY WE SHOULD PAY BOTH GENDERS EQUALLY”.

MRS. ODUM ALSO COMMENDED HASAACAS LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB FOR THEIR RECENT OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN THE MAIDEN CAF WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.
