Accra, Feb.14, GNA- Kessben Outreach Foundation, a subsidiary of Kessben Media Group, Monday presented a cheque for GH¢50,000 to the Appiatse Support Fund for the reconstruction of the community.
It has also mobilised 3,000 bags of cement from loved ones awaiting delivery to the Appiatse Support Fund.
During the presentation of the cheque in Accra, Mr Andrew Danso Aninkorah, the General Manager of Kessben Media Group, said the donation formed part of the Foundation’s ‘widow’s mite’ towards the reconstruction of the Appiatse community, razed down by an explosion on January 20, this year.
He said the media was supposed to help people in distress situations and not only criticising the government, hence, but the Foundation also embarked on “Make Appiatse Live Again” campaign to solicit support from individuals as well as listeners and patrons of Kessben FM and television stations in Accra and Kumasi for the Appiatse Support Fund.
The Foundation, he said, had supported many brilliant but needy persons in the Ashanti Region including Mampong Babies Home.
Dr Joyce Rosaline Aryee, the Chairperson of the Appiatse Support Fund, while receiving the dummy cheque thanked the Kessben Media Group for the gesture and appealed to other corporate entities to follow suit.
Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, a Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Lands and Forestry, who chaired the Appiatse Reconstruction Committee, said the Committee visited Appiatse to interact with the victims of the explosion and key stakeholders towards efforts to reconstruct the community.
The Appiatse explosion has claimed 14 lives, injured more than 170 others and displaced over 400 residents in the area.
