Investing in Black Stars to win Afcon is a joke – King Faisal owner Alhaji Grusah

Controversial football administrator, Alhaji Grusah has waded into the money pumped into the Black Stars as part of plans to win the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon].

Government, headed by President Akufo Addo together with corporates bodies and the Ghana Football Association have held a breakfast meeting on how to end the country’s 39 years trophy drought.

It was later reported that a sum of $25m will be invested into the team for the Afcon and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers scheduled to kick off in June.

Akufo Addo stressed that the target for the 2022 World Cup is for the Black Stars to reach the semis.

However, the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif in an interview said the said amount will be used to cater for all the national teams for the next years.

Speaking on Kumasi FM, the tough-speaking administrator revealed that it will be a big joke for the country to invest a huge sum of $25m into the Black Stars whiles ‘average coach like CK Akonnor is in charge.

“It will be a big joke and a waste of money if the government thinks its dreams of winning the AFCON trophy will materialize whiles CK Akonnor is the head coach,” the King Faisal owner said.

“I believe we can win the trophy but not with this coach, Ghana need a white coach because football is managed by a critical thinking person and I know you understand me well”.

According to Grusah, Ghanaian coaches rather travel outside the country to acquire knowledge in coaching on a white man’s land and therefore there’s a huge difference between our coaches and the Whites.

“Have you see any white man doing his coaching course or even an attachment here in Ghana.” He quizzed.

“Our men rather travel there to study from them”. That shows the difference.” Alhaji explained.

He further advised that, if the country wants to lift the prestigious trophy then Akonnor should be ditched or the country may regret it later.

“If you think C.K Akunnor can win us the trophy, send him and you will thank me later.”

He further noted that based on his patriotism and love for his Country he can never ditch Ghana for any other country but believe that Coach Charles Akunnor’s tactical nous can’t be relied on to bring a trophy to the Nation.

“Tactically Akonnor is not up to the standard required to win a trophy and must be dropped immediately before things get out of hands next year at the tournament in Cameroon”, he concluded.
