Accra,– Mr. James Ocloo, Head Coach of Icons Basketball team in Accra has bemoaned the lack of facilities for retrogression of the sport in the country.
Ghana’s basketball has over the years suffered setbacks at both club and national level with teams not able to qualify for the international championship, due to the absence of a modern basketball arena.
In an interview with GNA Sports, Mr. Ocloo who is a renowned basketball coach said that the basketball community was facing slow growth in the country due to lack of support from the government.
Coach Ocloo however stated that much blame cannot be put on the Ghana Basketball Association (GBA), which was faced with financial challenges in the execution of its functions.
Coach Ocloo asserted that most Ghanaian basketball athletes were highly talented and are well drilled technically due to the countless hours of hard work and dedication they invest into their training but are not exposed to the best of facilities.
Coach James also lamented the lack of motivation of being a developmental coach in Ghana but hopes enough attention would be given to support their growth as coaches.
