I was shocked Black Stars defeated Egypt 6-1 in 2014, says ex-GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association [GFA] President, Kwesi Nyantakyi has shared he was surprised when Black Stars recorded a 6-1 win over Egypt in the first leg encounter of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Ghana on its road to its third World Cup appearance put up one of the best performances during their qualifiers.

Asamoah Gyan, who grabbed a brace opened the scoring before an own goal by Wael Goma and goals from Majeed Waris, a Sulley Muntari penalty and the last strike by substitute Christian Atsu made light-work of an Egyptian goal by Mohammed Aboutreika from a penalty at Baba Yara stadium.

The Pharaohs won 2-1 in the return leg encounter but it was enough as Black Stars seal progression to the World Cup.

Speaking for the first time on the scoreline, the former CAF 1st vice president said he was stunned with the scoreline even though he knew the team will win but not by that margin.

“I was surprised when Ghana beat Egypt 6-1 at the 2014 world cup qualifies though I knew we will win but not that huge margin,” Kwesi Nyantakyi said on Onua FM.
