Hearts of Oak were simply not ready to play in Africa – Nana Yaw Asabre

Former Hearts of Oak National Chapters Committee [NCC] Communications Director, Maxwell Nana Yaw Asabre is of the view the club was not ready for the Africa campaign.

Hearts of Oak after winning the domestic treble under Samuel Boadu had the nod to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League.

The Phobians were crashed out after suffering a 6-2 aggregates scoreline against Wydad Athletic Club.

Following the humiliation, the Ghanaian giants dropped to the Confederations Cup. However, after recording a resounding 2-0 against JS Saoura in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak again suffered a 4-0 defeat in the return leg in Algeria.

According to Mr Asabre, the club was not ready to compete in Africa with the players that were recruited.

“You look at the recruitment ahead of the CAF Champions League playoffs and it tells you the club was not ready,” he said on Asempa FM.

“How on earth do you sit down for a player’s contract to run out before you you decide to hold talks with the player?

“The poor results in the Champions League and Confederations Cup indicates that Hearts of Oak were not ready.

“After winning the Premier League last season, what was the plan for Africa? The board was only interested in releasing statements and nothing else.

“The brand of Hearts of Oak has been ruined by this current leadership,” he added.

Hearts of Oak will now focus on the ongoing 2021/22 Ghana Premier League where they are yet to win a game.
