Hearts coach elated with the team’s outing in the CAF Champions League opener

Accra,- Samuel Boadu, Head Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak has lauded the resilience of his players in their 2-0 win against Club Industriel de Kamsar in the first round qualifier of this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

Two late second-half goals from Kofi Kordzi and Salim Adams ensured Hearts cruised into the second round as they set to face Wydad Casablanca in October for a place in the next round of the competition.

Speaking in a post-match interview after the victory, Coach Boadu was happy with the performance of the players of whom the majority were playing in the competition for the first time.

“This my first game in the CAF Champions league and I have learned a lot from this game and we certainly, miss the absence of the family but we worked hard to get the glory.

“It was a very difficult game and tactically they were disciplined but as a home team, it was a must-win. They deployed the defensive approach so we had to be patient to break their defence.

“We found it difficult to break their defense in the first half but after recess, we re-strategise and got the two goals later in the game,” he said.

He added that playing without fans did affect the team because most of the players did invite their families to come and witness the game and I believe the standard would have been higher with fans
