GRNMA unveils an ultra-modern secretariat/guest house in Western Region

Takoradi Dec. 03, GNA – The Western Regional chapter of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has commissioned its ultra-modern secretariat and a guest house in Sekondi-Takoradi.

The edifice, constructed at the cost of GHS9.5m was made possible by the contributions of members through its building levy.

Constructed by Messrs Construction consult with the PWD as the consultant, the 31-rooms facility comes with three offices and a mini-conference hall in its basement.

The commissioning was done by Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, Omanhen of Essikado Traditional Area, Mr. Frederick Aygapong, Chief Director, Western Regional Coordinating Council, and Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, National President of GRNMA.

Speaking at the commissioning, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, said the edifice showed the vision of the leadership of the association towards its future sustainability to be self-reliant in addressing the welfare needs of members.

She added that the facility was a manifestation of the directive of the association to its ten administrative regions to own a guest house and secretariats to generate some revenue to support the activities of the association.

She said the leadership of GRNMA was focused on strengthening and improving welfare strategies to better a lot of its cherished members.

In that regard, Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo added that the GRNMA continued to run its guesthouses on a welfare basis to support members who for one reason or the other need a place to lay their heads for a few days to transact their businesses to do so with ease and comfort.

She charged the Regional executives to ensure a good maintenance system to always keep the facility in good shape and to give the everyday guest an experience that would make them go back all the time.

“The staff must be kind and receptive to guests and always make sure that the experience of every guest is perfect such that they will always come back to have that same experience”, she said.

The Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Oyere Darko-Mensah in a speech read on his behalf by Mr. Frederick Aygapong, Chief Director, Western Regional Coordinating Council, noted that the edifice would be of great benefit to both members and residents of the Metropolis.

He also noted that it would provide employment to residents and commended the association for the initiative to venture into business activities.

The Regional Minister pledged the support of the RCC in a way that would be mutually beneficial to the association and the Region.

Mr Sampson Yalley, Regional Chairman of the GRNMA in a speech read on his behalf by Mr John Fio, Regional Second Trustee narrated the history of the project and said the land for the project was acquired in 1995 when leadership conceived the idea.

Spearheaded by successive executives, he said the project was awarded on contract for its construction in 2016 and was expected to be completed in two years but delayed due to structural changes and re-designing of the whole project.

Mr Yalley applauded the diverse efforts of all past and present executives in ensuring the successful completion of the project.

Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, Omanhen of Essikado Traditional Area who chaired the event commended the nurses for the show of unity, commitment, and dedication towards the construction of the project.

He underscored the important role of nurses in sustaining people saying “we always take nurses for granted but until you experience the services of a nurse, then you will realize their importance”.
