GPRTU advises travellers to examine vehicles before boarding

Sunyani,- The Sunyani main branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has advised travellers to always examine the conditions of commercial vehicles before boarding them in order not to expose themselves to avoidable dangers.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Bismark Adjin-Frimpong said passengers needed to be selective and board road worthy vehicles to protect themselves from needless road accidents.

Mr Adjin-Frimpong, the Administrative Secretary for the Branch, called on the DVLA to be firm on their aptitude test before issuing licenses.

“We can prevent road crashes and fatalities on the highways if the DVLA helps to ensure only roadworthy vehicles are issued with certificates,” he said.

“As a transport union, we are doing our best to help bring sanity on our roads but I also think passengers must also contribute their part by checking over-speeding, overloading and wrong overtaking of drivers,” Mr Adjin-Frimpong stated.

He called on the Ghana Highway Authority to ensure regular maintenance of roads, saying deplorable conditions, particularly potholes developed on most of the highways, were contributing to road crashes and fatalities.
