Hearts of Oak have finally recorded a first win of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season following a narrow 1-0 victory away at Elmina Sharks.
The defending champions started the new campaign badly after going four matches without a win.
In that poor run, the team from Accra drew three games and lost the other one in a game against Ashanti Gold SC at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
During that difficult spell, Hearts of Oak subsequently got eliminated from not only the CAF Champions League but the Confederations Cup competition as well.
Now out of Africa, the Phobians have turned all attention to the Ghana Premier League, hoping that it is not too late to fight to defend the title they won last season.
Today at the Papa Kwesi Nduom Stadium, Hearts of Oak have made the first step towards that dream after beating Elmina Sharks 1-0.
Throughout the 90 minutes, the Phobians were given a tough time but substitute Gladson Awako scored with a stunning effort in the 71st minute to seal the maximum three points for the team.
