Ghana international Christian Atsu netted a consolation goal for the Newcastle United U-23 team on Monday afternoon when the team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leeds United U-23 at the Elland Road.
The two teams today locked horns in a matchday 20 encounter of the English Premier League 2 campaign.
Having started the fixture as the clear favourites, Leeds United dominated and grabbed the lead in the 18th minute courtesy of a strike from Joe Gelhardt.
Later in the half-hour mark, a Charlie Cresswell equalizer doubled the lead for the home team en route to eventually picking the maximum points.
Before halftime though, ex-Chelsea attacker Christian Atsu tapped home a cross from Tom Allan to reduce the deficit for Newcastle United.
Although Atsu and his teammates will put on a fight in the second half, the team could not add to their tally and hence lost 2-1 to Leeds United at the end of the game.
Christian Atsu, 29, has not been registered by Newcastle United in the English Premier League this season and hence continues to spend time with the U-23 side of the Magpies.
