Ghana beyond aid attainable through patronage of locally manufactured goods

Accra,— Mr Kwabena Asomaning, Secretary of Okaikwei Community Association (OCA), says patronage of made in Ghana goods can serve as the bedrock on, which government will achieve its vision of a “Ghana beyond aid.

He said if citizens patronised Ghanaian products, it would make the local industry lucrative and bring glory to the nation.

The Secretary said it would also reduce imports, increase exports, and boost the economy by strengthening the country’s currency.

Mr Asomaning said this at the launch of this year’s Farmers’ Day “Feed a Community,” project.

The project, initiated by OCA, aims at supporting the less privileged and encouraged the locals to patronise locally made goods.

It fed some 3,000 people in the community.

It was marked on a four-part theme: “Eat Ghana, Drink Ghana, Wear Ghana and Dance Ghana.”

He said OCA was working at helping some children in the Okaikwei Municipality to access tertiary education.

Mr Asomaning said the issue of street homes could be dealt with if children were exposed to vocational education.

He said such training would empower the youth with skills to make them economically independent.

The Secretary lauded farmers for their immense contribution to the nation’s economy and encouraged the youth to embrace agriculture to enhance their lots.

The Okaikwei Community Association (OCA) was formed in 2007 as the Okaikwei North Community Association.

OCA is a community-based group, which works to foster a sense of co-operation, integration and unity among the local people.

It covers the Municipal area historically known as Okaikwei.

There are two local government territories in the OCA area: Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly and Okaikwei South Sub-Metro.

It covers three constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Okaikwei North and Okaikwei South.

The Okaikwei Central constituency is part of Okaikwei North Municipality.
