Ewe Haborbor of Southern California donates to cured lepers in Ho

Ho,- The Ewe Haborbor of Southern California in the United States of America has donated assorted items worth Gh¢18,000 to Cured Lepers Village in Ho.

The items included bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of wheat, bags of sugar, cartons of milk, bags of detergent, toiletries, cartons of tin mackerel and some medicines for the yuletide.

Mrs Edith August, President of the Haborbor, said the gesture formed part of their social responsibility to the vulnerable in society.

She said it was good to show love and care, especially to the disadvantaged in society.

“As the festive season draws near, it’s appropriate to extend charity to the cured lepers to enable them to celebrate the season with joy,” the Haborbor President said.

She explained that the decision to support the Village followed the provision of learning and teaching materials to some schools at Seva.

Mrs August said the group is a non-profit Non-Government Organisation (NGO) of Ewe-speaking people residing in Southern California.

The main purpose is to work towards the welfare of members, ensure unity within themselves and support the development of their homeland.

She said the Haborbor is a member of the Conference of Ewe Speaking Associations of North America (CEANA), which has over the years helped build schools, clinics, bridges in some communities in the Volta Region and some parts of Togo.

Mrs August commended the management of the Village for their effort at taking care of the people and encouraged them to continue with the good work.

Mr Nelson Atito, the caretaker of the Cured Lepers Village, expressed appreciation for the gesture.

He appealed to other organisations and philanthropists to support the village in similar ways.
