DPS Group presents classic Ballpoint Pens to BECE candidates

Accra— DPS Group has donated 350,000 Pens to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for onward delivery to candidates of the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The donation of the items valued at 175,000 Ghana Cedis, is to encourage the pupils to put in their best while ensuring that they enter the examination halls with durable writing materials.

In a brief remark before the presentation at the headquarters of the GES, Accra, the Marketing Manager of DPS Group, Mr. Kwasi Poku Bosompem, said “because we are good citizens and think about the welfare of the Ghanaian student, we find it necessary to partner GES in the delivery of quality education for the children.

“We in the DPS believe that, for all the good education we are giving to the children, the final delivery is the pen; if the child goes to the exams hall and the pen does not write well, everything they’ve learnt would have gone waste,” Mr. Bosompem added.

He also observed that, as part of government’s bid to achieve universal education for all through the free SHS policy, there was the need for organisations and individuals to support the government by assisting students to achieve success.

The Deputy Director General of the GES in charge of Quality and Access, Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, commended DPS for their noble role in prioritizing support for education.

Dr. Tandoh, who received the items on behalf of the Director General of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, said he was excited about the donation because the pens were made in Ghana, “which is an attempt by DPS to promote industry, provide employment, and encourage the pupils to know that such products could be manufactured here in Ghana.”

He inspired the pupils to work hard such that they could get schools of their preference in partaking in the free SHS policy.

Dr. Bempah also asked the pupils to select schools that met their capabilities and not tie themselves to the strictly book-based institutions since options existed for them to choose schools that run Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) so that they could come out better prepared for the job market.

DPS, a company that deals in PVC pipes, plastic tables and chairs, pens, etc., is embarking on a nationwide project of giving pens to every pupil in Ghana as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The project, christened, “One pupil one pen,” has already distributed pens to about 60% of the estimated number of pupils in the Greater Accra Region, and 10% in the Ashanti Region, with the promise of reaching the other regions of Ghana.

In all, DPS is expected to donate pens to about 4.2 million pupils from Class Four to SHS three.

The donation of pens to the final year students was done by the Managing Director of DPS Group, Mr. Shubam Gidwani.
