Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko have been defeated 2-1 by Academy side Benab FC in a friendly match this afternoon.
Currently enjoying an unbeaten run in the second round of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season, the Porcupine Warriors are hoping to continue to pick crucial points to help their quest to win the league title at the end of the campaign.
Today, head coach Mariano Barreto and his charges as part of preparations for their matchday 21 encounter in the league decided to engage Benab FC in a friendly encounter.
After a slow start to the game, the academy side had a shock lead after just six minutes of play to upset the Premier League record champions.
Although the Reds will fail to get back into the game before the break, a Martin Antwi equalizer from the penalty spot in the 58th minute finally leveled the score.
Later in the final 10 minutes of the game, Benab FC scored again to restore their lead to eventually win 2-1 at the end of the friendly exercise.
Coach Mariano Barreto and his Asante Kotoko side will continue training in the coming days before hosting Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.
