CK Akonnor to take home $275,000 after Black Stars sack

Former Ghana coach, CK Akonnor is set to take home a whopping amount of $275,000 after his sack.

The 47-year-old was shown the exit together with his assistants on Monday following a statement by the Ghana Football Association after a shaky start to the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers which saw Ghana drop to 3rd with three points after two matches played.

Akonnor signed a two-year contract worth $25,000 a month to charge of the senior national team from January 2020 but his contract was terminated four months from its expiry date.

Per the dictates of Akonnor’s contract, he is entitled to a payout for the remainder of his contract in the event of unjustifiable termination of the contract.

The remaining four months of his contract amount to $100,000.

In August, it was revealed and confirmed by Akonnor and the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, that the former Asante Kotoko trainer’s salary was seven months in arrears, approximately $175,000.

In essence, Akonnor is owed a total of $275,000.
The Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours.

The Black Stars will take on Zimbabwe in the next round of games in October 2021.
