Ghana male senior national team head coach, CK Akonnor has handed a late Black Stars call-up to Legon Cities FC defender Joseph Adjei ahead of the upcoming games in the qualifiers to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The Ghanaian tactician last week Thursday announced a 29-man squad for the matches against South Africa and Sao Tome & Principe later this month in the international break.
Although Joseph Adjei was not part of the squad, he has now been drafted due to the inability of defender Kasim Nuhu Adams to make the trip.
The TSG Hoffenheim centre-back was invited for the two matches but could not join the other Black Stars players due to restrictions in Germany necessitated by protocols in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Joseph Adei, 25, joins the squad having in the past month trained under CK Akonnor during a camping session that started with 30 home-based players.
He has excelled in the Ghana Premier League this season and will hope to take his chance when given the opportunity to play for Ghana in either match of the AFCON qualifiers.
