Church equips Women in Bawku with entrepreneurial skills

Bawku (U/E),- The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana (ELCG) has held an entrepreneurship training for its Women fellowship in Bawku, Upper East Region.

The three-day training with funding from the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Illinois District Lutheran Church Mission, and resource persons from the Business Resource Centre, aimed at increasing the faith of the women in Christ and equipping them with entrepreneurship skills to enable them generate income for their families.

The 19-women, from various branches of the church were taken through catechism, confession and commandments among others in the first session, led by Rev. Dr Nicholas Salifu and was finalized with the entrepreneurship training at the Concordia preparatory school.

Mrs Akosua Drifa Eghan, a Resource person for the Lutheran Church said the Church had identified the critical role women played in the Church and families and there was the need to equip them with requisite entrepreneurial skills to enable them identify business opportunities in their respective communities and embark on them to support their families.

Mrs Eghan said equipping the fellowship would have multiple benefits on the Church and their communities as it increased their faith and skills.

Mr Albert Yamenu, the General Manager of the Business Resource Centre at Bawku, said being an entrepreneur involved having capital to set up a business to identifying a specific need in society and setting objectives to achieve a targeted goal from the investment.

He urged the participants to be amiable in their utterances to their clients, tap on new information and be unique in their businesses.

This, he explained would not only maintain old customers, but would help breed new customers as one will be distinguished by abiding by the aforementioned.

Mrs Sophia Jabar, a participant told the Ghana News Agency that even though she was not having a business running at that moment due to lack of exposure to ideas, the training had equipped her with varied business opportunities in her community.

“I’m much particularly grateful for this training because it has opened my mind to a lot of business opportunities and I will no more sit idle. I will also ensure my colleagues benefit from what I have learnt” she stated.

Participants expressed their gratitude to the Church for looking beyond growing their sprit in Christ to offering them skills to earn income for their families.
