Children advised to be curious

Accra,-Mr Joseph Jackson, President of the Rotaract Club of Accra, a Non- Profit Organisation, has advised children to be curious in acquiring knowledge.

He said curiosity would make them know about issues around them for informed decisions.

Mr Jackson gave the advice at a programme, “Sharing the Joy of Christmas” organised by the Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF), a Non-Profits Organisation in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Accra and Amazing Women of God, in Accra, to celebrate Christmas with street connected children.

“Sharing the Joy of Christmas” is an annual event organised to put smiles on the faces of street children and their families with the presentation of hampers filled with Christmas goodies.

Mr Jackson said knowledge was in books, and charged children to develop interest in reading, and make good use of libraries.

Mr Yakubu Issah, Communications and Advocacy Officer, SCEF, said with the threatening number of children in the streets, it was important they rescued, rehabilitated and reintegrated them while organising vocational training for their parents to empower them to be able to cater for the children after five years stay with the Foundation.

He said the celebration was an opportunity to reach out to the children with love and to put smile on their faces and create avenues for children in the community to express joy and potentials in arts and craft work.

The Foundation presented hampers to street children at Arts Centre in Accra, as well.

It is expected to organise a street advocacy campaign in selected communities in and around Accra through it’s “Face-to-Face campaign”.
