Ho,- Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister has said that the 2021 Population and Housing Census will offer a good pointer for duty-bearers to re-align administrative areas proposing splits and autonomy when the exercise is completed.
He urged such proposals should await the completion of the Census, which would be the basis for the determination of whether to divide administrative areas or not.
Dr Letsa was reacting to the request by Togbe Addai Kwasi Dzani XIII, the Paramount Chief of the Awudome Tradition Area for the split of the Ho West District due to its lineal nature, posing difficulty for administrative purposes.
The Minister said this when the Chiefs paid a courtesy call on him to commend him for his re-appointment by President Akufo-Addo.
The Paramount Chief of the Awudome Tradition Area appealed to the government for a political split of the Ho West District to ensure efficient and effective administration.
He noted that due to the vast landscape of the district, managing the affairs and development of every part was impossible for the local government.
Dr Letsa noted that a proposal would be made as it was a legitimate concern for the development of the country as a whole.
He reiterated that statistics from the ongoing 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) would determine the demarcation of new districts.
He commended the chiefs for the visit, pleading that they continue to maintain the peace in the traditional area as they were important in promoting the overall peace in the country.
The Regional Minister acknowledged the chiefs for their support.
