1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Mohammed Polo believes the senior national team, the Black Stars needs a competent and a goal-scoring striker to be able to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon].
The West Ham country have booked their place for the competition scheduled to kick off in Cameroon after finishing group winners with 13 points.
However, the team has dominated the headlines for the wrong reason after failing to score a single goal in their last two friendly games played.
The Black Stars lost to Morocco in Rabat before sharing spoils with Ivory Coast at the Cape Coast Stadium.
With President Akufo Addo having tasked the Black Stars to end the country’s 39 years trophy drought, Polo believes the solution to end the drought is to discover a competent striker for the team.
“The only thing is, though I don’t know where n how we can get one, but we need a standing and competent striker,” he told Kumasi FM.
“A striker that can disturb the defense of our opponents because looking at our current strikers, we don’t have one.”
” We just need a complete striker, who can put fear in the defense line of the opponent, which will make it easier for our other strikers or players to score,” the former Hearts of Oak head coach added.
Next year will be 40 years since Ghana won the Afcon in 1982. The team have come close in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
