Assin Nsueam (C/R),- The Assin South District Assembly has held its second ordinary session to discuss and evaluate the progress of programmes and projects the Assembly is undertaking.
It also reviewed the implementation of the Assembly’s Annual Action Plan for 2021/2022 and revenue performance and its annual budget.
It was in accordance with the Local Government Act 936 of 2016 which enjoins District Assemblies to hold ordinary assembly meeting each quarter.
Mr Emmanuel Boadi, the Presiding Member tasked the assembly members to plan towards achieving developmental projects in their respective electoral areas.
He was of the view that the performance of duties by members was essential for the growth and development of the district.
Mrs Felicia Amissah, the District Chief Executive for Assin South who presented the Executive Committee’s report said the Assembly could not achieve its targeted revenue mobilisation as it collected GHC 214,581.76 as against the projected budget of GHC344,726.00.
She attributed the shortfall to unwillingness on the part of taxpayers and the continuous effect of Covid-19.
“Management would engage stakeholders for community sensitisation on the operationalization of area councils in 2022 ”she noted.
In addition, she said NABCO Officials deployed to various communities for the collection of property rates continued.
She appealed to market women in the district to pay their tolls for the assembly to embark on infrastructural development at the various markets.
The DCE announced that an amount of GHC15,104.00 had been released by the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) to formalize businesses under Rural Enterprise Programme.
She mentioned that 103 businesses in the district had been successfully registered with the Register General’s Department through the Business Advisory centre.
Mrs Amissah appealed to the assembly members to be vigilant and report to the security agencies any situation within their jurisdiction that tend to destabilise peace and cause harm to life and property.
