Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has confirmed that the Porcupine Warriors tried to sign Ghana legendary striker, Asamoah Gyan last summer.

Prior to the start of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League, the 33-year-old was linked to Kotoko.

However, the former Sunderland and Al Ain forward joined Legon Cities on a one year deal.

Amponsah detailed Asante Kotoko’s pursuit of Ghana’s all-time top scorer which couldn’t materialize after they failed to meet the demands of the striker.

He said Gyan’s outrageous demands halted negotiations and the club made a quick move to secure the services of Brazilian international Fabio Gama.

“At some point, we wanted Asamoah Gyan. We pushed but it didn’t happen then we opted for Fabio Gama,” Nana Yaw Amponsah told Accra based Happy FM.

Gyan declined a move to ‘his dream team’ Asante Kotoko joined fellow Premier League outfit Legon Cities but has failed to live up to expectations.

He is yet to score or provide an assist in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season which ends this weekend.
