Awutu Bawjiase (C/R),— The I-SMILE Fashion and Design Center, a community help centre at Awutu Bawjiase, has held its 5th graduation ceremony for the 2021 graduating class for 15 apprentices who successfully went through three-year training in fashion and dressmaking at the centre.
The graduates, including three males, received certificates, testimonials from the center, and electric sewing machines and accessories donated by Madam Hanna Serwah Tetteh, former Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister.
The Centre was established in 2013 with six people and currently has a population of 68 some of whom are from Kwaman, Awutu Bontrase, Asamankese, Cape Coast, Apam, and Abakrampa, and has so far graduated 67 apprentices from the centre.
Madam Hannah Tetteh who is currently the UN Special Representative to Africa and head of the United Nations Office to the African Union is the patron of the Center.
She was joined by Madam Gizella Tetteh- Abotui , her Sister who is the Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya West Constituency to present the machines and the certificates to the graduates.
Madam Tetteh urged the graduates to make good use of the knowledge and skills acquired to earn a living.
She urged the youth in the area interested in learning a trade to take advantage of the initiative to register with the Center to enable them to acquire entrepreneurial skills in dressmaking free of charge and set up their businesses to improve their lives and that of others.
Madam Tetteh commended the craft masters of the Center for empowering the youth to be productive and self-sufficient in society and prayed that the good Lord will continue to equip them with wisdom to train more young people.
She promised to continue to support the center to expand to enroll more youth to acquire vocational skills to earn a living rather than to go to the urban centres for non-existing greener pastures.
Awutu, she noted needed total development and a phase lift which the government alone could not shoulder and in this regard, called for all hands on deck to support the process.
Madam Tetteh-Abotui on her part, called the Craft Masters to market the centre on the internet, Facebook, the community radio for more youths to register with the centre to learn a vocation.
“My first term in office as MP for the area, I have been able to lobby for re-grading and shaping of roads in the constituency, offered some support to my constituents, re-roofed some Schools and houses which were ripped of as a result of rainstorms, she said.
According to her, she has interacted with the Department of Community Water to increase its supply to the constituency while more infrastructure development and electricity extension is added to help improve the livelihood of the citizens were in the pipeline.
Madam Abotui advised the graduates to let customer service and quality work be their hallmarks for more people to patronize their services.
