Abura Dunkwa (C/R), Dec.16, GNA- The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has intensified patrols within the district to curb the activities of criminals and fraudsters before and during the Yuletide.
Mr Willyevans Obiri Awuah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of AAK, at a meeting with the Justice and Security sub-committee of the Assembly, urged members to play their roles effectively to ensure incident-free holidays.
He said the Police Service would intensify night patrols in the district to deal swiftly with any emergencies.
In line with activities of the security in the district, the DCE said the Assembly would provide the Police Service with fuel to combat crime.
At the meeting, it was also discussed that check points in the district would be increased to intercept any planned criminal activities and check suspicious characters.
Mr Obiri Awuah advised people to lock their doors with sophisticated keys to avoid criminals breaking into their homes.
He also entreated the public to keep emergency numbers of the Police and Fire Service so they could report situations beyond their control.
He said the Police Service had been tasked to beef up security before, during and after the celebration of festivals in the communities.
“Let me use this opportunity to commend the security services for ensuring the safety of residents in the district,” he said.
Meanwhile, the DCE had engaged the leadership of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) of AAK.
He urged the union to educate drivers and pedestrians to be extra vigilant when using the roads.
He cautioned drivers not to engage in hard drugs before driving, conduct regular maintenance, observe road signs and avoid wrongful overtaking.
The drivers, on the other hand, pledged to comply with measures put in place to ensure incident-free Christmas.
