Ghana football legend, Mohammed Polo has charged CK Akonnor to parade a good squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nation [Afcon].
The West African country is on a mission to win their fifth continental trophy.
The Black Stars have already booked their place in the upcoming tournament after recording a draw against South Africa at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg last month.
Ghana finished Group C as the winners with 13 points.
After Akonnor’s call ups attracted criticisms last month, Polo, who is a 1978 Afcon winner beleives blending the best players in Europe and in the local players will aid the Black Stars to annex the trophy in Cameroon.
“Since many of our players are playing outside Ghana, Akonnor should devise a system of monitoring their performance so that he would know who is in top shape to merit invitation for the tournament,” he told Graphic Sports.
“But some locals such as Gladson Awako, Abdul-Ganiyu Ismail and Razak Abalora who have proved themselves should also be offered the opportunity to be at the tournament,” he stressed.
“He (Akonnor) should select the best from the locals and foreign-based players and ensure that even his substitutes can turn things around to give Ghana her fifth continental trophy next year,” he added.
The 2021 Afcon will kick off in January to February next year.
