NPP used Zongo Ministry to deceive Zongo people for votes — Hon. Ismaila Ali Horoya
The Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator for the opposition NDC, Hon. Ismaila Ali Horoya, said the NPP administration only used the creation of the Zongo Ministry to deceive Zongo people to vote for them.
Mr. Horoya Ali pointed out that the Ministry was only created without an objective and focus hence no meaningful impact made by the Ministry for the past four years.
The Greater Accra Zongo Caucus Coordinator made these revelations during a telephone interview with this reporter when he reacted to the debate on whether to scrap or retain the Ministry of Zongo and Inner Cities Development by the NPP government under the second term of President Akufo-Addo.
According to some government communicators, the scrapping of the Zongo Ministry and making it an agency under one of the Ministries was to help make it function more effectively.
But Mr. Ismaila Ali Horoya debunked the notion and added that government doesn’t have good plans for the Muslim dominated communities, hence scraping the Ministry was a wise decision.
He explained that during the 2020 campaign season, the NPP knowing they would scrap the Ministry lied to Ghanaians especially the people of Zongo that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was against the creation of the Ministry.
“NPP were in Zongos across the country, telling the people that when they vote for NDC, they will scrap the Zongo Ministry, little did they know that the people of Zongo are wise and above this childish mentality and propaganda”, he stated.
He said under NDC, the Ministry would be given a meaningful and proper responsibility to discharge its mandate to cause change in Zongo communities that what the NPP is struggling to do.
Unlike the Akufo-Addo led administration, he stressed that the Ministry under NDC will become a fully-fledged with the task of developing the inner cities and Zongo communities thereby creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
According to a Presidential staffer, Mr. Richard Ahiagbe, the Zongo Ministry shall become a department of one of the Ministries, probably, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
